The Risk and Insurance Management Society, Inc. (RIMS) is a not-for-profit organization of nearly 4,500 member companies in the United States and Canada represented by over 7,800 individual executives with responsibilities for risk management. Founded in 1950, RIMS is the oldest and largest organization dedicated to advancing the practice of risk management, a discipline that protects physical, financial and human resources. RIMS member organizations collectively employ 27 million people and make annual purchases of insurance and related risk management services of more than $50 billion.
The Pittsburgh Chapter is one of the oldest and largest chapters of society with a distinguished history of leadership that continues today. The Pittsburgh Chapter has provided four past presidents of the Society and, in 1996, published its Risk Management Best Practices which are used by organizations across the country.
